Felicity

By Tim Dashner

January of 2003 in Texas, Felicity Hope was born just like any other child. For the first 2 years, life seemed normal. It was shortly after she turned 2 that our lives changed. What is epilepsy? I had no clue at the age of 21 what this meant. For us it meant growing up and growing smart. Epilepsy has been a 10 year nightmare that I thought would never end. Through those 10 years we tried at least 10 pharmaceutical drugs that never controlled anything. I believe the poisons prescribed by her neurologist only made her seizures worsen. What else can we do to make her better?

Felicity is the toughest person I know. She has drop seizures, stare seizures, and Grand mal-Tonic Clonic seizures. Names no parent should have to know. Or even worse to witness your child have one of these or all like Felicity. Broken noses, stitches, and black eyes were non stop. Imagine 10 years of this. Imagine not being able to talk to your 11 year old because her mind (from having so many seizures) is stuck at a 3 year old’s level. She can’t read or write. She knows most words but cannot put them together in a sentence.

Watching a seizure to me is like being tied up, while watching someone hurt your child, and there is nothing you can do about it; Helplessness. After 10 years of this I can't explain all of the pain and suffering I’ve been through. As for Felicity, she laughs through most of them and cries through the rest. She gave me hope to keep on.

In May of 2014, Felicity went into status and we almost lost her again.

“No more!” we said. We learned of Charlotte Figi and the success she had with cannabis oil. But, living in Texas this was not an option. We had tried everything and were not ready to put Felicity in a special care facility. Cannabis was to be our next step.

July 2014 we made it to Colorado; just Felicity and I. Her mother couldn't come because her son was facing cancer in his eye. I had to take Felicity away from everything she’s ever known – Her family & her mom, who could barely let go. Ripped away all because of a law.

The first night we arrived in Florissant, Colorado, she was going into status from the change. Luckily, I had a friend there waiting, and I administered her first dose of cannabis oil, which stopped her status! I was in shock! Normally, with pharmaceutical rescue meds, she is knocked out for a few hours. This time she was full of energy and playing!

It's been 6 months on cannabis oil. 4 months of that being only on Haleigh’s Hope, and the seizures are for once under control. Before cannabis oil, she was having 40 to 100 seizures a day. Now, after cannabis, she has maybe 4 or 5 seizures a week. This last week, she went a week without any seizures at all. She's putting words together and making 7 word sentences.  I actually had my first conversation with my daughter a month ago. This oil is nothing but a miracle that has changed our lives forever.

Thanks for helping to save our baby, Jason Cranford.  God bless!  Next Story >
